Obituary for Wilma L. Jacobs

PEKIN – Wilma L. Ireland Jacobs, 92, of Pekin, passed away at 3:07 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Pekin Manor in Liberty Village of Pekin.

Wilma was born July 11, 1925, in Peoria County to Glenn and Leonette (King) Keefer and lived her childhood years in Edwards, IL. She married Burton Ireland on June 29, 1945 in Mitchell, SD; he preceded her in death on January 27, 1996. Wilma later married Lester T. Jacobs on June 8, 2000; he preceded her in death on November 9, 2016.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gerald Ireland; who preceded her in death on September 14, 2003; and a brother, James Keefer.

Wilma is survived by one daughter, Annette (Michael) Sayers of East Peoria; four grandchildren, Michelle (Brian) Rose of Pekin, Darin (Heather) Sayers of Pekin, Ryan (Lyndsey) Ireland of Peoria, and Sean (Kelly) Ireland of Dallas, TX; and twelve great-grandchildren, Autumn, Timber, and Jayden Rose, Emma, Ryne, Alissa, Dylan, and Carter Sayers, Kobe, Brode, Brennan, and Philip Ireland. She is also survived by Lester’s six children, Judith Littlefield, Gloria (Charles) Nofsinger, Nancy (Andrew) Czernek, Marilyn (Chris) Phillips, Patricia (Mark) Maston and Paul (Tracie) Jacobs; thirteen step-grandchildren; twenty-nine step-great-grandchildren.

Wilma was a member of Second Baptist Church in Peoria for many years. After she married Lester, she attended Second Baptist Church and Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria.

Wilma worked many years in Peoria in the clerical field, as a typist, a bookkeeper, and as a credit manager. Among her employers were R.G. Le Tourneau, Auto Owners Insurance, Isaac Walker Hardware, Little Giant Products, and Multi-Ad Services.

She enjoyed shuffleboard, which she played in Florida for many years during her retirement. Wilma also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, attending dinner theater presentation, and while she was still physically able, tour bus traveling.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a graveside prayer service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, at Cottonwood Cemetery in Hanna City. Rev. Paul Maitland and Rev. Elaine Bolen will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church of Peoria, or St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
