Obituary for June Clair Pope

PEORIA-June Clair Pope, 97, of Peoria, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2018 at Morton Villa in Morton.

June was born July 11, 1920 in St. Louis Missouri to Norman and Alma Ockel Klicker. She married Charles Lee Pope on April 29, 1950 and he preceded her in death on November 28, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Milos of Leslie, Missouri, Lynne (Neal) Johnson of Pekin; one son, Norman Pope of Fenton, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Chris Pope, Jennifer (Mike) Hatten, Jennifer (Greg) Jenkins, Kelli Milos, Toni Milos, Dawn (Jordan) Tanner, Sarah (Nemanja) Stanojevic, John (Marisol) Johnson, Chris Johnson; six great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

June was a Civil War reenactor and was of the Episcopal faith.

When June was young, she was a graceful figure skater. As she grew older, she enjoyed dancing. June was an avid gardener, with an amazing ability to keep plants alive. She had African Violets that grew year round and a porch full of a forest of beautiful greenery that her grandchildren adored. June would say "I love you" to her plants, and to this day, her granddaughter does the same.

She was an independent and strong-willed woman who was still seen around town on her scooter in her late eighties. She loved to shop and surprised her grandchildren with presents.

June Pope will be missed by her family, but they rejoice in the knowledge that she is with her dear husband, Lee, and with their Lord.

Graveside services will be private. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
