Obituary for Louise D. Solley

Louise D. Solley, 96, of Roanoke, formerly of Washington Christian Village in Washington, Illinois, went to see Jesus and her beloved husband at 2:45pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.

She was born June 18, 1921 in Cordell, Oklahoma to Ruby (Kellogg) Dorney and George A. Dorney. She married the love of her life, Melvin (Mel) D. Solley, on October 15, 1949. They were married for 57 years at the time of his death in 2006. Their kind and gentle interaction was a testimony to all of the deep love and respect they shared for each other.

Surviving are one daughter, Carol S. (and Dave) Youngman of Germantown Hills; two granddaughters, Sarah L. (and Dave) Verdick of Washington, and Ann L. (and Rey) Agama of Washington. She has 4 great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy! Louise was proceeded in death by all 9 of her siblings and eagerly anticipated their heavenly reunion.

In addition to graduating from Hill Business University in Oklahoma City, she attended the University of Oklahoma for 2 years. When she was not being a full-time wife and mother, she worked as a secretary. Her last job was secretary to the Chair of the Creative Arts Department at ICC. She was the 6th person hired by ICC, even before there was a campus, so she literally watched it grow from the ground up! She and Mel travelled to all 50 of our beautiful United States. She enjoyed socializing with friends, reading, singing, (even sang in a trio on the radio when she was in her 20’s) playing the piano and accordion, doing crossword puzzles and most of all lovingly investing in the lives of her family. She was a member of Memorial Christian Church for 50 years, serving the church in many capacities. Recently when asked if she had any advice to share she thought and said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength, and your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:30-31.
Louise dearly cherished the time she spent with her family and will be remembered for her devotion and service to them. We cherish the many fond memories we made together. She will always remain in our hearts.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:00am Wednesday, May 30, at The Wilton Mortuary on Knoxville. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 with Pastor Dwight Winnett officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens next to Mel.

Louise requested no flowers; rather send memorials to Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke 1102 W. Randolph St. Roanoke, Illinois 61561. (Family would like to thank the staff for their tender care.)
