Obituary for Robert L. McIntyre

Robert Lyman McIntyre, of East Peoria, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Norma (Pierson) McIntyre. Robert was born in Chicago, IL to Robert and Martha McIntyre on April 25, 1927. He moved to Peoria in the winter of 1942 and attended Peoria High School until graduation in 1945. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy just before graduation and was stationed in Guam for 8 months during 1945 and 1946. After being discharged from the Navy in August of 1946, he enrolled at Bradley University in September and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. By attending summer school before the start of his senior year and taking early morning and evening classes, he was able to join his father in the family business in September of 1949. While at Bradley, Bob joined Sigma Phi Epsilon and was a lifelong member.

Robert and his dad had a business franchise with a national company which covered more than 25 counties in Central and Eastern Illinois, selling intercom and voice paging systems. In the 1950’s, Executone started manufacturing nurse call and other hospital and nursing home communication systems and these customers became a major part of the family business. After his father’s death in December of 1962, Robert became the Executone franchise owner in Central Illinois and opened a second office in Champaign with sales and service employees in both cities. In June 2014, he closed the business after 64 years.

Bob was a long-time member of Kiwanis International, serving as the President of the Suburban Kiwanis and when they closed, he attended the Downtown Kiwanis. He served on the board and in various capacities. He chaired the Senior Citizen Christmas Party for over 10 years and arranged the annual recognition luncheon for those businesses and persons who helped Suburban Kiwanis. He was also a 52 year member of the Shriner’s International.

Robert and his wife, Norma, were longtime season ticket holders of Bradley University Basketball and he enjoyed reading, history and helping others. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

There will be no services and interment will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Arrangements were handled through The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Online condolences may be made through
