Obituary for Walter J. Urbaniak

PEORIA—Walter J. Urbaniak, 87, of Morton, formerly of Peoria and Chicago, died suddenly after a brief illness on February 14, 2019.

Born October 26, 1931 in Chicago, the son of Walter Urbaniak and Clara Jarzombek, Walter married Rita Wagner January, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2006 in Peoria.

Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Evelyn Malinowski and Pearl Zmich.

He leaves his son Walter A. Urbaniak, son Timothy Urbaniak, daughter Julia Shirey and husband Rick, daughter Cynthia Jahraus, daughter Emily Urbaniak and spouse Valerie Grondin and grandson, Jacob Jahraus.

Walter served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War.

Walter worked for the United States Postal Service at the Old Chicago Main Post Office for 26 years and was a die hard Chicago Cubs fan. He was very witty, enjoyed the bright lights of Las Vegas, liked to dance the Polka at every wedding, and could beat anyone at Rummy 500.

His greatest dream was to see his Cubbies win the World Series and in 2016 his dream came true! Another Cubs fan in Heaven!

Graveside services will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Resurrection Mausoleum with Rev. Father Thomas Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, at The Wilton Mortuary. Entombment will follow the graveside service at the mausoleum.
