Obituary for Rose "Kay" C. Crusen

PEORIA – Rose “Kay” C. Crusen, 97, of Peoria, died at 1:24 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Heddington Oaks in Peoria.

Kay was born on August 28, 1921, in Fairbury, IL, to Edward A. and Louise (Harrington) Yeagle. She married James G. Crusen on July 26, 1945, in Peoria; he preceded her in death on July 16, 1993.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Sue (Gary) Vachon; two sons, John and Richard Crusen; one brother, Joseph Yeagle; and a daughter-in-law, Linda.

Kay is survived by her children, Joseph (Fran) Crusen, Catherine (Chuck) Rosenthal, Martha (Jerry) Schmitt, and Paul (Cindy) Crusen; sixteen grandchildren, Amy, Joanne, Becky, John, Joe, Andy, Michael, Julie, Emily, Jacob, Greg, Tony, Peter, Tim, Jeffrey, and Matthew; sixteen great-grandchildren with one on the way in November; a sister, Edith L. Yeagle; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Crusen.

Kay graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and was a surgical nurse until she started her family. She was an owner and manager of Crusen Carpet Service for more than 45 years. Kay’s greatest joy in life were her children and grandchildren. She was a volunteer for American Red Cross and was awarded volunteer of the year. She will be remembered for hosting coffee everyday, where she welcomed to her home Principal Joe Bauwens from White School, all of the family businesses’ employees, and friends. She was a lover of nature, especially her favorite bird, the cardinal, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Kay was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Peoria.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Peoria with Msgr. Brian K. Brownsey officiating. A visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., with the rosary at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, September 23, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria and a half hour prior to the service at the church on Monday, Sept. 24. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Peoria.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
