Obituaries

Robert C. “Bob” Nelson, age 86, of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Liberty Village in Peoria.

Bob was born on January 1, 1932 in Peoria to Walter C. and Barbara Nelson. He married Dixie L. Lancaster on May 16, 1954 and she preceded him in death on February 12, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his children, Susan Toland of Peoria, Steven (Julie) Nelson of Peoria and Richard (Kris) Nelson of Seal Beach, CA; his grandchildren, Kate Nelson, Mia Nelson, Lauren (Andy) Schroderus, Chris (Caitlin) Toland, Brett Toland and Brandon (Hannah) Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Kaden Schroderus, Brynn Nelson and Kenley Pilgrim.

Bob was a 1949 Graduate of Peoria High School and he served during the Korean War. Bob was employed by CILCO for over 36 years, retiring in 1990 as a senior real estate agent. He was a member of the Board of Director of the Member’s Choice/CILCO Credit Union for 40 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Peoria, the Greater Peoria Shrine Club, the Peoria Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, Peoria Elks Lodge #20, Peoria Moose Lodge #1220, and the Proctor Hospital Meals on Wheels Program. Bob coached in the Peoria Heights Little League throughout the 1970’s; he was an avid golfer, a member of the Bourbon Creek Dance Club, and a 50 year member of the Wednesday Afternoon Poker Club. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears Fan.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Liberty Village Manor Court for their excellent care of both Bob and his wife, Dixie.

Cremation rites will be accorded and memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 12pm at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm also on Saturday at the mortuary. Burial of ashes will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
