PEORIA—Gerald O. “Jerry” Wendland, 84, of Peoria, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 11:31 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at UnityPoint Health Methodist.
Born July 31, 1934 in Peoria, the son of Otto and Freda Krause Wendland, Jerry married Georgia Whitson June 21, 1963 in Peoria.
Family was important to Jerry and he is survived by his wife, Georgia Wendland of Peoria; one son, Rick (Charlene) Wendland of Tampa, FL; two daughters, Vicky (Gary) Tuffentsamer of East Peoria, Sherry (Jeff) Gough of Peoria; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Wendland of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A member of Teamster’s Local 627, Jerry worked for C.A. Powley Construction in East Peoria for 35 years and retired from N.E. Finch.
He enjoyed time with his family, gardening, fishing and spending winter in Florida with family and friends.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at UnityPoint Health Methodist for the fine care and compassion given to Jerry.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Karl Eckhoff officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Church. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.
