Obituary for Alan Ahl

PEORIA – Lester “Alan” Ahl, 69, of Peoria, IL died Monday June 17, 2019 at 6:00 a.m. at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 3, 1949 in Galesburg, IL to Lester and Ellen Sereno Ahl. He married Kay Cihla on November 24, 1973 in Creve Coeur, IL, both enjoying over 45 years of a blissful marriage.

Surviving are his wife and three children; Beth (Michael) Johnson, Robbie (Kelly) Ahl, and Matt (Eileen) Ahl all of Peoria, ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Lawrence Michael (Stephanie) Ahl and sister, Christine (Mark) Michelson both of Peoria. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Alan proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran and a member of the 173rd Army Airborne Division. Alan went on later in life to be a carpenter for Illinois Central College for over 20+ years and served as a member of the Carpenters Union. He retired from ICC in the summer of 2014.

Alan enjoyed playing golf, photography, fishing, and being a handyman. Despite being a true renaissance man, Alan’s most important hobby was his family. He was affectionately known as the “Superman” of the family. No matter what he had going though, he was never too busy for his family. Whether he was attending all of his kids (or grandkids) games, be there to offer advice, or just listen, Alan would always greet you with a smile, a hug, and a friendly spirit that once you met him, you would never forget. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to all that knew him. His spirit, guidance, and wisdom will continue to live through all of his family and friends.

We love you, we’ll miss you and we thank you.

Cremation rites have been arranged. A Celebration of Life will be held at their home on Saturday June 22nd at 3:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Honor the Warriors, www.honorthewarriors.org.
