Obituary for Stella M. Carson

Stella M. Carson, age 76, of Peoria Heights, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at her home. She went out with a bang as the fireworks began in celebration.

Stella was born on August 16, 1941 in Napoleonville, Louisiana to Charlie and Juanita (Monroe) Martin. She married Willie Carson on August 23, 1963 in Louisiana.

Stella was a dietician for Proctor Hospital during the 1960’s. She then became a school bus driver for District 150, which she did for over 25 years. Stella was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was active in the quilting club, Martha Group, the food pantry and she was known as “The Shoe Lady” at the garage sales. She was a member of the Proctor Hospital Cardio Rehab Group, which became a second family to her. She enjoyed her bowling leagues and slot machines. Stella had a heart of gold, a fun sense of humor and was truly a one of a kind lady.

She is survived by: her husband, Willie James Carson; her daughter, Wanda Carson of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Rosalie Landry, Rosanna Ketchens, and Mercedes Lang; nieces and nephews, Budwin “Anthony” (Joycelyn), Gerald (Sedonia), Lawrence (Venus), Jerome (Alberta) and Dorinda (Anthony); a host of great nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Frances Burd Placide and Mary Ann Martin; her aunt, Albertha Beaner, whom she was raised by; one brother, Donald Martin; and three nieces, Catherine Placide, Patricia Allen, and Sharon Jones.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the ladies of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church for proving meals and support.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Thomas Taylor and Fr. Steven Willard will be officiating. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Memorials may be made to St. Jude or to the St. Thomas Food Pantry.
