Obituary for Shirley Jean Steckmann

PEORIA—Shirley Jean Steckmann, 94, a resident of Liberty Village of Peoria since 1997, passed away at 3:21 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Liberty Village, Manor Court.

Born in Peoria, May 23, 1923, a daughter of Carl and Alma Loock Koch, Shirley married August R. Steckmann, May 7, 1944 in Peoria. He preceded Shirley in death February 9, 2005 in Peoria.

Also preceding Shirley in death were her parents and one daughter, Carolee Rundblad.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda (Keith) Crook of West Peoria; two grandchildren, Brian (Alecia) Crook, Wendy (Derrick) Foote and three great-grandchildren.

Shirley worked as a stenographer for various attorneys in Peoria.

Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and active in many church activities including the Walther League, where she met her husband. She was also active in the couples bowling league, worked with the Sunday School Department over 45 years and the AAL/Thrivent organization.

She was active with many groups at Concordia Lutheran School including the PTL and as a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter, Linda.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church where visitation will be one hour before services. Pastor Matthew Synnott and Pastor Barry Long will officiate. Entombment will be at the American Mausoleum.
