Obituary for Richard A. Jones

Richard “Dick” A. Jones, age 80, of Bartonville, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Dick was born on May 23, 1938 in Peoria Heights to L. Fred and A. Pauline (Askins) Jones. He married Joyce A. Kennedy on June 28, 1957 in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce; his children, Mark (Catherine) Jones of Hanna City, Duane (Carol) Jones of East Peoria, Larry (Joan) Jones of Peoria and Lisa (Ron) Fate of Bartonville; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Also surviving are two brothers, Donald D. Jones of North Pekin and William (Ellie) Miller of Fairview, OR; two aunts, Dortha “Dot” Holmes and Mary Askins; one cousin, Vickie (Roger) Newell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, Milton and Robert; and one sister, Esther.

Dick worked for Caterpillar for 28 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville, the Elks Club, the Winnebago “Winnie the Poo” Club, the Illinois Indians State Club, the Diesel Engine Club and FMCA. He enjoyed traveling and camping and loved spending time with his family.

Services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 1pm at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria with visitation beginning at 10am. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
