Obituary for John P. Kiersch

John P. Kiersch, age 77, of Peoria Heights, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 at UnityPoint Health Proctor in Peoria.

John was born on September 2, 1940 to Anthony and Josephine “Jo” Kiersch.

Surviving are his daughter, Kelly (Scott Fromm) Kiersch of Peoria Heights, IL; his step-son, Duke (Dawn) Knighton of Peoria, IL; his grandchildren, Kelsey (Tre) Gauwitz, Kayla (Justin) Robinson, Sam (Will Scott) Fromm, Taylor Fromm, Tess Knighton, and Trey Knighton; and his great-grandchildren, Stefan, Brooklyn, Joseph, Jaxton and Brayden. Also surviving are his sisters, Virginia “Babe” Parker of Fairview Heights, IL and Dorothy “Sissy” Woltering of Ferguson, MO; his brother, Charlie Kiersch of Cahokia, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

John worked for Illinois American Water Co. in Peoria for over 40 years, retiring in 1999. He was a diehard fisherman who enjoyed many fishing excursions with his best friend, Paul Savant. He was an avid bowler, bowling a 297 on Feb. 27, 1986. He enjoyed bowling at Bowl Mor, Midway, Mt Hawley and Crossroads for many years and making lasting memories with friends, Waxey Flores, Tom Skaggs, Craig Catton, Paula Meeks and Joyce Audi, just to name a few! John also enjoyed betting on horse races, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and spending time with his beloved daughter and grandchildren. He loved going out to eat and would pass the time gambling on the boat.

John will be missed dearly. He was a great man, with a huge heart who loved his family very much.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 3pm to 6pm at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. Memorials may be made to the family for his great-grandchildren.
