Obituary for James R. Hardy, Sr.

James R. Hardy, Sr., age 82, of Edwards, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria.

Jim was born on October 15, 1935 in Washington, IL to Clifford K. and Nollie A. (Bailey) Hardy. He married Arline J. Wilkinson on December 28, 1956 in Washington and she preceded him in death in June of 2008. Also preceding him in death are his son, Richard Hardy; his son-in-law, Steve Downard; his parents; three brothers, Clifford, Richard and Thomas Hardy; and four sisters, Peggy Kamp, Phyllis McCarty, Elaine Rutledge, Barb Quant and Marilyn Hazelwood.

Surviving are his children, James (Ramona) Hardy, Jr. of Edwards, IL, Constance (Jerry Egan) Downard of Edwards, IL, Jonathan (Lynn) Hardy of Goodfield, IL and Jared (Julie) Hardy of Glasford, IL; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, David Hardy of Washington, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Jim graduated from Washington High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961. Jim was in the food service industry for many years, working for Jumer’s, Continental Regency, Bradley University and Eureka College, to name a few. He also owned Edwards Tap for 21 years. Jim was a member of the Deer Creek American Legion and he enjoyed bowling.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10am at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Rev. Phillip Merritt will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 4pm to 7pm, also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cottonwood Cemetery in Edwards. Memorials may be made to the Cottonwood Cemetery Association.
