Obituary for Gordon S. Henry

Gordon S. Henry, age 72, of Peoria, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Gordon was born on October 15, 1945 in Peoria to Loren R. and Dorothy G. (Fitzgerald) Henry.

Surviving are his son, Douglas (Lisa) Henry of East Peoria, IL; two grandchildren, Lila Kate and Drew Matthew Henry; his sister, Carol (Dr. James) Ausfahl of Peoria, IL; two nephews, Joshua (Heidi) Ausfahl and Philip (Charisa) Ausfahl; and 8 grandnieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gordon served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam for nine months, and he worked for Caterpillar, retiring in 2003. Gordon attended Bethany Baptist Church in Peoria and was an Escort for Proctor Hospital for five years, where he loved chatting up patients and visitors. Gordon enjoyed spending time at Wildlife Prairie Park, he loved 50’s and 60’s Rock ‘n Roll music and was a collector of 45 records.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10am at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Rev. Lyall Sutton will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 from 6pm to 8pm also at the mortuary. Interment with military honors will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Memorials may be made to the Peoria Rescue Ministries, South Side Mission and Wildlife Prairie Park.
