Obituary for Ella M. Bridges

Ella M. Bridges, 93, of Chicago, passed away at 6:14 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

Ella was born January 15, 1925 in Okolona, Mississippi to Jessie and Lucille Gates Ford whom preceded her in death. She spent majority of her life in Chicago, IL where she married Conrad Bridges Sr. (who also preceded her in death) and birthed her 3 children.

Also preceding her in death were Conrad Bridges Jr. (son), Mary Alice Jones (daughter), Harvey Ford (brother) and Erskin Ford (brother).

Surviving are Yvonne Bridges (daughter); six grandchildren: Bobbie Randle (Dominique and De’Anna), Yvette James (Candace), Mary April Williams (Keisha, Kenneth Jr, Kendal, Keiyanna), Angelic Jones-Berkeley (Donovan, Donald, Angela), Antione Victor (Alec and Kyle), Conrad C. Bridges; 10 great-great-grandchildren, son-in-law, Lewellyn Jones, grand-son-in-law, Gary Randle Sr., her nephew Maurice Bridges (Maurice Bridges Jr.) and her cousin.

Ella was employed by Homer Bindery, in Chicago, and retired as a machine operator. Throughout her career she gained a number of lifelong friends. After retirement, Momma Dear (her family nickname) enjoyed spending time with her family and teaching as many kids as possible to tie their shoes and blow their noses. She helped raise any kids she could get her hands on and loved doing so.

Ella enjoyed talking to all her grand kids, great grand kids, great-great grand kids, family and Chicago friends. Her pastimes included spending numerous hours holding conversations on the phone, reading magazines, watching Andy Griffin, cowboy movies and game shows on television.
