Obituary for Charles "Dave" Beals

PEORIA – Charles D. “Dave” Beals, 80, of Peoria, died on Sunday, June 10, 2018, surrounded by his family at Heritage Health in Chillicothe, IL.

Dave was born on August 16, 1937, in Champaign, IL, to Harold H. and Blanche (Cassel) Beals. He married Shirley Kellogg on May 25, 1957; he later married Gladys Y. Shane Savage on December 19, 1981, in Dunlap, IL.

Dave is survived by his wife Gladys; his sons, Kurt (Cindy) Beals of Germantown Hills, Kevin (Andrea) Beals of Menifee, CA, and Perry (Theresa) Beals of Rancho Cordova, CA; his stepdaughter, Angela (James) Smith of Lebanon, TN; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clem (Anette) Beals; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Bryce; one stepdaughter, Reneé Savage; and three siblings, Grant, Gene, and Mary.

Dave was an active member of the Peoria Seventh Day Adventist Church in Peoria, who served as a deacon and an elder within the church. He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for many years in design and as a draftsman. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, gardening, and photography. Dave loved sports and was also an umpire and a referee throughout his life. He loved coaching and watching his boys play basketball and baseball, and thoroughly enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria with Pastor Don Lewis and Pastor Matthew Lucio officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. There will be a private interment on Monday, June 18.

Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association.
