Obituary for Carolyn A. Wentz

PEORIA – Carolyn Ann Wentz, 84, of Peoria, Illinois passed away peacefully on November 16, 2017, at Apostolic Christian Skylines after a long and courageous battle with Dementia.

She was born on June 24, 1933 in Detroit, MI, to Ira and Alice Eicher. She married Chet L. Wentz Jr. on January 1, 1957. He passed away August 9, 2015.

Surviving are four children, Karen (Rod) Haggerty of Peoria, David (Tonya) of Naperville, Dan (Stacy) of Alpena, MI, and Rob (Anna) of Fairfax, CA; 8 grandchildren, Ryan, Kathryn, Kelsey, Haley, Luke, Zach, Amanda, and Jack; two sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn grew up in Wheaton, IL where she became friends with Chet in Junior High. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1955 and worked for World Book Encyclopedia in Chicago while Chet was enlisted in the Army.
They were married during Chet’s military leave. They lived in Germany for two years where he was stationed. They then settled in Glen Ellyn, IL where they raised their 4 children. Carolyn was a homemaker, seamstress, and gardener. She was a member of Glen Ellyn’s Garden Club for over 30 years. She was the secretary at Glen Ellyn Bible Church where they were members, then at Tyndale Publishing in Wheaton as a book-buyer.

The Wentzs retired to Peoria and became members of Grace Presbyterian Church. They also enjoyed spending time with family and traveling with friends. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and volunteers at Apostolic Christian Skylines for the love and care they gave to Carolyn during the five years she lived there.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at the Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL.

Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Skylines or the Peoria Alzheimer’s Association.
